Ban set for police union pins
Police Commissioner Gerry Howe has banned Portsmouth officers from wearing any kind of adornment on their uniforms, including memorial pins and pins that indicate the officers are members of the K-9 team, motorcycle unit, SWAT team, or a union. The last on the list runs counter to the decisions of local labor boards stemming from a conflict regarding union pins that began in October 2006. The commissioner has pledged to take the fight all the way to the Supreme Court, if necessary.
