Bangladesh Factory, Site of Fire That Trapped and Killed 7, Made European Brands
A Bangladeshi apparel factory was the site of a fire over the weekend that killed seven workers. The factory, which made clothing for European brands, was constructed without proper fire safety equipment. About 300 workers were inside the factory when the fire started, and some jumped out of windows to escape. Retailers who produce clothing in Bangladesh have been under increased scrutiny for fire safety and working conditions in their factory. Many groups have called for increased regulation and cooperation from the brands to make factories safer.
