BART, labor union leaders reach new deal
Since the beginning of the year, negotiations between the San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) and its two largest unions seem to have been wrought with issues, both typical and unusual. The two parties may be able to put all of that behind them now as they have announced that a new final contract. The previous agreement had fallen apart after BART management had said that 6 weeks of paid Family Medical Leave had accidentally been included. All three parties have issued statements saying that the new agreement is fair, but would not comment further until their members had a chance to review the details of the new deal. The revised contract contains costs within the organization?s projected operating budget and allows for greater flexibility in bereavement leave and how employees can pay for medical leave.
