Bird Alliance of Oregon staff express concerns about the future of wildlife rehabilitation center after sudden layoffs this summer
The Bird Alliance of Oregon laid off various workers this summer, and the job cuts led to the temporary closure of the wildlife rehabilitation center. Two major employees were let go, including the manager of the wildlife rehabilitation center and the part-time coordinator of the Ambassador Animals program. The layoffs put greater responsibility and workloads on the rest of the workers and the volunteers. The staff has expressed opposition to the layoffs and state that the move has led to a loss of trust in management. The cuts came during the peak of bird breeding season, and it is full of new baby birds and other orphaned animals. The non-profit organization stated that the layoffs are to offset the cost of buying a new property. The new property was purchased for a new wildlife rehabilitation center, as the current one is over thirty years old and in poor condition.
