Birmingham City Council loses equal pay appeal bid
The British Supreme Court has ruled that claims over unpaid compensation can be filed up to six years after staff leave their jobs. The Birmingham City Council was challenged by 174 female employees who had been denied bonuses that were given to employees in male-dominated occupations. The ruling means that the women can seek compensation that they were denied, which is expected to be around 2 million pounds. The court's ruling significantly increases the time in which employees have to file claims, something which could impact thousands of other workers.
