Boeing aims to ram up jet output, not local jobs
Executives at Boeing say they plan to step up aircraft production in Seattle. Yet a cost cutting campaign that the company is embarking on will likely shift jobs to lower-cost regions of the United States. The company?s decision to move 700 Seattle IT jobs to Missouri and South Carolina last April were inspired by an identical sentiment. A spokesman for Boeing said that the company is doing its best to maximize productivity and profitability as it navigates both defense cuts as well as the ups and downs of the competitive market.
