Boeing Dodges Risk With Labor Peace Spanning Jets? Debuts
The newest commercial jet to be produced by Boeing will be made in Washington State after the union there has voted to extend their contract through 2024. The 777X is set to begin being manufactured starting in 2017 and has already garnered contracts worth more than $100 billion. The contract passed by only about 600 votes of the 23,900 ballots counted. The tight vote reveals how deeply divided the union members were over issues such as job security, the reduction in pensions, and the bonuses and sweeteners added after the first contract extension proposal failed.
