Boeing rescinds proposed contract that offered thirty percent wage increase
Negotiations between Boeing and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union have broken down, and Boeing has rescinded its offer of increasing wages by thirty percent. Boeing stated that in the past week, it increased retirement benefits and employee take-home pay, but the union did not seriously consider the proposed contract. Boeing has also claimed that the union continues to demand wage increases and benefit improvements that Boeing can not offer if it wants to stay a competitive business. The union has not wavered on its demand for a forty percent wage increase, and workers began strike action after Boeing offered a twenty-five percent wage increase. The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers union countered that a recent survey of unionized workers found that a significant majority opposed the proposed offer.
