Boeing to cut ten percent of workforce, layoffs will not affect unionized workers but rather corporate employees
Boeing announced major layoffs last week, and the layoffs will affect around ten percent of Boeing employees. The job cuts will not affect any workers represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, who are currently on strike. The layoffs will affect white-collar employees, including engineers and other non-unionized employees in Boeing’s corporate offices. The layoffs are not voluntary which means that Boeing will not provide the workers the opportunity to voluntarily leave the company and receive financial compensation and incentives. Managers will make their final decision about which employees to cut at the end of October, and workers will be notified of the layoffs in mid-November. Layoffs will take effect in January, and if more cuts are needed to reach the ten percent reduction in the company’s workforce, another round of layoffs will occur in February.
