Boston Globe union investigates its president
The president of the Boston Globe's largest union, the Boston Newspaper Guild, faces investigation by the union's executive committee. President Daniel Totten is accused of violating the union's constitution, but the executive committee would not be more specific than to say the allegations involved local funding matters. The committee will be conducting an audit, and issuing formal charges sometime next week; they have already canceled Totten's credit card, and his approval-of-funds authority. Totten says there is no problem, and that he looks forward to replying to these allegations in the appropriate forum. The union's position has been precarious over the last few months , and Totten has not always been popular. Some members have launched a petition for his removal as president.
