Brazil Court Orders Unions to Limit Strike Threatening Travel at Christmas
The Brazilian Superior Labor Court has ordered at least 80% of striking flight crew and ground staff to return to work between today and January 2. The union had planned to strike today over pay increases. The union is asking for 13% increases, more than twice what the company has offered. Talks between the airline and the union have been ongoing since September, and airport officials say that they have had plans in place for the strike since the beginning of December. If at least 80% of the workers do not return to work, the court will levy fines $59,000 a day.
