Brazil: McDonald's Fined $30 Million for Labor Law Violations
Arcos Dorados, the Brazilian division of McDonald's, is facing a $30 million fine after being found in violation of labor laws. In a 2012 settlement, the company agreed to abolish its illegal rotating hours system, to give employees work breaks, and to stop excessively demanding overtime. Since reaching that agreement, Arcos Dorados has failed to keep its word. Labor unions spent the better part of 2015 building a case around McDonald's. A hearing dedicated to the logistics of paying the fine will be held on December 13.
