British Air Caterer Offers Layoff Deal
Gate Gourmet, the American-owned company whose layoff policies led to strikes against British Airways weeks ago, has offered a new layoff plan to employees. According to the company, employees opting for voluntary layoffs would receive two weeks' pay for each year of service, more than twice the required minimum in Britain. Gate Gourmet had fired 660 employees for conducting an unauthorized walkout over working conditions in London, which led to sympathy strikes by British Airways workers.
