Budget deficits in San Francisco have led to cuts to nonprofit funding and resulted in the closure of a childcare center
The city of San Francisco has been struggling with its financial budget, and large deficits have led the local government to cut various programs to help reduce costs. A childcare center in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood shut down this past week due to these costs. The Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Cooperation is funded by the city, and laid off eight employees earlier this month, and the shutdown of the childcare center occurred shortly after. Parents were not given any notice of the closure, and are now struggling to find affordable childcare services. Around 70 kids in the area go to the childcare center every day, and many children rely on the childcare center for homework help and fun and creative activities when their parents are at work.
