Budget preview: Detroit Mayor Dave Bing to seek union concessions as threat of receivership looms
Detroit's Mayor is expected to announce a budget on Tuesday that will include large cuts. The mayor cut over $100 million last year, but the city council has asked for even deeper cuts this year. Part of the cuts are expected to come from public workers, but the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, which represent the majority of the public workers, said that they are not willing to give those concessions unilaterally. If the budget is not balanced, Detroit faces being put under state receivership.
