Burma law to allow labour unions and strikes
Under a new law in Burma, workers will be allowed to form unions for the first time since 1962. The law allows unions with 30 members or more to form, and allows strikes after a notice period. The law also contains penalties for those who do not follow the law. The International Labour Organisation consulted with the government on the law, and while they have not closely inspected it, they believe that it is a step in the right direction. Many are still skeptical of whether the law will be effective.
