Business Cheers Bush's Plan to Hire Immigrants More Easily, but Labor Is Wary
President Bush has proposed a new immigration plan that would give renewable three-year visas to illegal immigrants already working in the United States as well as to newly hired foreigners. Many business leaders are in favor of Bush's plan because they claim that there are not enough Americans willing to take low-paying jobs. However, unions and immigrant advocacy groups have criticized the plan, saying it would lead to lower wages and exploitation of foreign workers.
