Cable TV Producers and Union Quarrel
The Screen Actors Guild has sought a strike authorization in their continuing negotiations with Hollywood producers over the growing pay cable industry. Though the move is unlikely to precipitate an actual strike, negotiators for the studios have expressed dismay at the action. The Guild is hoping for a payment structure from basic cable reruns more in line with what other creative professionals receive, and with the recent increase in profitably of basic cable programming.
