California Child Care Union Strikes Deal to Preserve Benefits, Bump Up Pay
Roughly 60,000 home-based child care providers in California have reached a tentative agreement with the state that preserves retirement, health care, and training benefits while providing modest pay increases. The deal includes a 1.5% cost-of-living adjustment, $90 million in one-time stabilization payments, and a three-year guarantee on key benefits that union leaders said had been under threat during negotiations. Union representatives say the agreement will help providers stay in business, hire more staff, and improve access to care for working families.
