California Supreme Court ponders work break rules
The California Supreme Court is considering a lawsuit regarding the rules for meal and rest breaks. The plaintiffs are asking that the Court require employers to follow state laws regarding breaks. They say that employers often make it hard or penalize employees for taking scheduled breaks. The employers say that requiring employees to take break is penalizing those employees who do not want to take a break. The justices seemed to be divided on the issue, with some questioning how large employers could enforce breaks, while others questioned compensation structures. The decision is expected in the next three months.
