Canadian Auto Workers Union and G.M. Agree on Contract
The Canadian Auto Workers Union and General Motors announced that they reached a tentative contract agreement on Thursday. The agreement comes about three days after the union reached an agreement with Ford. The agreement includes annual lump sum payments, but no wage increases, which the union said was in line with General Motors' finances. Negotiations with Chrysler are ongoing, but are centered around changes to the wage system. Both Ford and GM agreed to a system that will mean new workers take longer to reach full wages, while Chrysler wants the CAW to agree to a two tier pay system similar to one United States workers have. The union said that they will continue negotiations with Chrysler.
