Canadian Auto Workers union considers GM strike
In lieu of General Motors' failure to rule out closure of its Oshawa, Ontario truck plant, the Canada Auto Workers union stated it is considering all measures of protest including a possible strike. GM is due to close Oshawa and three other North American plants by 2010 in response to a shift in consumer buying patterns from heavier vehicles to crossovers and cars. While GM officials claim the Oshawa plant will be reconfigured for new product in the future, union representatives cite a lack of trust in the company, describing the relationship as "fractured".
