Carvana cuts 12% of their workforce over email and Zoom
Carvana has let go 2,500 workers, blaming a “recession” in auto sales. The company said that workers who lost their job will receive four weeks of pay and one additional week for each year of service with the company. Employees are criticizing how the company communicated these cuts. Workers say that they did not receive any communication from their direct managers but instead were sent a generic email telling them that they were losing their job and to hop onto a zoom call later that day where a spokeswoman for the company read off a script. One employee said, “One of Carvana's slogans is 'Treat customers as you would treat your own mom,' and we didn't get treated that way as employees.”
