Catholic college faces crisis of faith, labor laws
The National Labor Relations Board says that Manhattan College, a Catholic institution located in northern Bronx, is not exempt from labor law since religion is not the college?s main reason for existence. Thus, the NLRB claims that the college?s adjunct faculty has the right to unionize on campus; however, the school is looking to appeal this. The decisions that are made with Manhattan College may have significant implications on labor policies of other Catholic colleges.
