CAW warns against Chrysler bankruptcy
The Canadian Auto Workers union is attacking Chrysler's creditors as the firm approaches bankruptcy ? a situation the union warns will be immensely harmful to workers, retirees, and consumers. The union blames auto sales, bondholders, and governments for the desperate
situation of automakers, claiming that bankruptcy is beyond the union's control. Nonetheless, the CAW in scheduled to resume negotiations with Chrysler. The company is seeking large concessions from the union in order to avoid bankruptcy, but the CAW has already refused earlier demands to cut labor costs to $19 per hour (per worker). The union appears to be preparing its members for a potential bankruptcy situation.
