Charges Reinstated Against UAW Officials
Criminal charges against two United Auto Workers officials, accusing them of misleading their members and prolonging a 1997 strike, have been reinstated by a federal appeals court. Donny Douglas and Jay Campbell allegedly offered to end an 87-day strike by 5,000 employees at a General Motors Corp. truck manufacturing plant if GM hired a relative and a friend who were not qualified. The spokesman for the UAW declined to comment on the ruling.
