Chemical company DuPont to pay millions in criminal penalties for its negligence and unsafe work practices that led to various worker deaths in 2014
In 2014, four employees at a DuPont chemical plant in Texas died due to a poisonous gas leak. As a result, federal prosecutors announced this past Monday that the company will be sentenced to two years of probation and pay millions of dollars in criminal penalties and community service payments for its criminal negligence. The company's operating locations will be under supervision by federal officials for the length of the probation, as the US Chemical Safety Board determined in 2019 that the gas leak was perpetuated by unsafe work practices and safety management system deficiencies.
