Chicago aldermen try to push Rauner to bargain with union
Illinois' Gov. Bruce Rauner has been negotiating a contract with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees union for months. While negotiation has not yet been successful, Chicago aldermen have pushed Rauner's administration towards an agreement without actually having the power to do so. Ald. Raymond Lopez noted that while the City Council recognizes their lack of power in the situation, they nonetheless feel compelled to denounce the "winds of disorder and chaos" he claims Rauner has brought to the situation. Rauner and the AFSCME have until June to determine if they are at an impasse. If they are, Rauner could move forward with his proposed contract terms, at which time AFSCME would probably strike.
