Chicago O'Hare airport workers to strike November 29
Following last Thursday’s vote to strike, 500 of Chicago’s O’Hare Airport’s janitors, baggage handlers, cabin cleaners, and wheelchair attendants have decided to delay protests until after the Thanksgiving holiday. Although the employees are independent contractors and are not unionized, they are being supported by the Service Employees International Union to raise their minimum wages of $8.25 per hour to $15. Originally, the employees wanted to strike during the airport’s busy Thanksgiving rush; this morning however, a representative from the SEIU assured the public that workers do not wish to interfere with holiday travel.
