Chicago police, fire union pacts expire Saturday
The Chicago police and fire department contracts will expire on Saturday, and negotiations are expected to continue past the expiration. Both unions are prohibited from striking. The last round of contract negotiations took three years to resolve, with firefighters and police officers working under the terms of their old agreements. Both sides say that they expect the negotiations to take some time.
