Chicago Public Schools Lays Off 62 Employees, Including 17 Teachers
On Monday, the Chicago Public Schools announced that it would lay off 62 of its employees, 17 of which are teachers. The schools also plan to no longer cover as much of the pension costs for teachers, a move that has caused the Chicago Teacher Union (CTU) to threaten to strike. Earlier this month, the CTU rejected a new contract proposal that included a clause to phase out this pension pickup. Forty schools will be affected as a result of these job cuts.
