Chicago Starbucks Reserve Roastery votes against union representation
Employees at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Chicago voted against unionizing and joining the Service Employees International Union. The Chicago Reserve Roastery is the largest Starbucks location in the world, and the failure to organize is a major loss for the union. Workers at the location claim that unionizing would create an unnecessary divide between workers and the company, and the relationship between Starbucks management and workers would suffer. Employees state that management has consistently had a healthy relationship with workers and has been responsive to worker demands. The union states that this outcome is due to the company’s campaign that strongly encouraged workers to vote against unionization.
