Chile's Kast unveils $1.3 billion plan to create 100,000 jobs
Amid persistently high unemployment, Chilean President José Antonio Kast announced a $1.3 billion investment initiative aimed at generating more than 100,000 jobs through infrastructure, housing, reconstruction and community projects. The plan includes accelerating public investment, introducing hiring incentives and expediting government payments to businesses. Chile's unemployment rate reached 9.5% in July, its highest level since the COVID-19 pandemic, after remaining above 8% for 43 consecutive months. The government expects the employment measures to stimulate economic activity over the coming months and into 2027.
