China Factories Turn to Undocumented Labor as Local Wages Jump
In an effort to encourage consumer spending, China has begun to increase wages. This decision has had the effect of drawing in undocumented workers from neighboring countries such as Myanmar and Vietnam. Employers have been apt to hire the illegal workers as they are not required to pay benefits, although this cycle of hiring has perpetuated the problem of non spending within the country.
