Since the beginning of 2017, China is taking a firmer stance on enforcing labor law through a new "name and shame" policy. Officially called the Measures for Announcing Major Violations of Labor Security and the Measures for Credit Rating Evaluation of Enterprise Labor Security Compliance, the regulations involve publicizing an offending employer's name and information alongside the violations made across mass media. Legal practitioners agree that the success of these new measures is reliant upon the actions of those at the local level. Local authorities are held responsible for classifying the seriousness of employer violations, and they are then tasked with determining measures on a case-by-case basis.
