China’s Latest Deadly Industrial Explosion Spotlights Dire Workplace Safety
On Monday, an explosion in a rural Chinese village killed at least 14 people, and injured 150. Chemicals that were not properly stored are believed to be the main cause, but industrial deaths have plagued China this year, with 13,723 thus far. China’s State Administration for Work Safety claims this number has dropped 8.1% since last year, but the China Labor Bulletin believes that this year’s numbers are deflated due to a change in the reporting and calculation process. The Chinese Communist Party is currently in closed door meetings and has reportedly censored footage of the explosion.
