Chronic Back Pain Related to Work Stress
According to new research published in the journal BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, chronic back pain may be the result of high levels of work related stress. When conducting the research, a team of German psychologists reviewed 18 studies involving over 19,000 individuals, focusing on the relationship between chronic lower back pain and psychosocial work issues, like a high workload, little social support at the workplace, and feeling no control over their daily tasks. The researchers found that psychosocial work issues were related to higher reports of lower back pain, and had severe consequences on job productivity and healthcare costs.
