Citing dignity, Greek workers take over factory
Staff at a now bankrupt Greek manufacturing company have revamped and reopened their former workplace as a collective that makes detergent. The factory they occupy used to produce ceramic tiles and export them to 29 countries before filing for bankruptcy in 2011. The group of about 70 share administration of the plant, with workers taking on a range of tasks from accounting to operating machinery. The workers say that they were inspired by a group of Argentine factory workers who took over operation and ownership of their defunct ceramics factory.
