City Council Approves Bill Mandating Sick-Day Pay
The New York City Council has passed a bill that will require many businesses to offer paid sick time to employees. The bill has been debated for many years, with unions and other worker advocates in favor of it and business groups and the Mayor opposing it. Changes to the bill that increase the number of employees businesses need to have for the bill to apply helped to push it forward. The Mayor was expected to veto the bill, but it passed with enough votes to override his veto. The bill will effect around one million workers.
