City of Kalamazoo, transit union at impasse over labor contract
The city of Kalamazoo, Michigan, has reached an impasse in negotiations with its transit workers union. The City Commission unanimously approved making a ?last, best, and final? offer to the union, except for wages. The previous contract expired in February, but an extension was made until April 25. The major disagreements are over wages, the insurance plan design, and increases in employee contributions toward insurances. An arbitrator will most likely be used to settle on a final wage schedule. The union had not responded for comment, nor given specifics of its proposal for arbitration.
