City of San Ramon named a best workplace for commuters
The National Center for Transit Research (NCTR) has named the California town of San Ramon one of the best places in the nation for people who commute to work. San Ramon has an active commuting-encouragement program including carpooling, public transportation, a biking system, and a number of companies that rely heavily on telecommuting. The city also has periodic rewards for those who use alternative mean of getting to work -special events, as well as prize drawings. Besides San Ramon, the city of Orange was also cited as an excellent workplace for commuters, as were the companies IBM, and Microsoft. All of those cited as excellent have several things in common - carpooling, public transit, a company-sponsored emergency ride program, and flexible work schedules and/or on-site child care.
