Civil service pensions shake-up
Public service unions in Great Britain are warning of strikes in the new
year if plans by the British government are passed, raising the retirement
age from 60 to 65 and basing pension payments on average pay throughout
workers? careers rather than the final salary prior to retirement. Proposed changes would apply to new hires as of April 2006, and to current employees from April 2013. Current employees would not lose pension rights earned before 2013.
