College graduates moving away from historically prosperous coastal cities, seeking jobs in more affordable cities instead
Coastal cities like San Francisco and New York have historically been hubs for young, white collar college graduate workers. However, in recent years, domestic migration data has indicated that now even high-paid workers are moving away from coastal cities due to high costs of living and affordability issues. The educational advantage of many of these cities is being eroded as the number of college-educated workers leaving has begun to outpace those moving in. Instead, many college-educated workers are seeking jobs in less expensive cities such as Atlanta, Houston, and Tampa.
