Columbia Graduate Assistants Vote for UAW
Graduate assistants at Columbia University voted in favor of being represented by the United Auto Workers union on Friday. The NLRB oversaw the election, in which 647 ballots were challenged. Despite 4,256 graduate assistants being eligible to vote, the final count was 1,602 - 623 . The campaign was revived in August after the NLRB ruled that the assistants were eligible to unionize, overturning over a decade long precedent against unionization at private universities.
