A new wave of technology is expected to displace workers in more sectors of the labor market than in past eras of rapid technological change. Once thought only to be a threat to manufacturing jobs, increased automation is now affecting the service and high-tech sectors as well. Increased technology increases business productivity and creates jobs in the long-run, but it is a very difficult process for workers who lose their jobs.
