Community employment scheme supervisors to strike
Irish community employment supervisors have decided to organize a strike in response to the government’s refusal to grant them an occupational pension scheme. In 2008, courts recommended that the state-sponsored enterprise give employees pensions. Striking employees are attempting to encourage the organization to follow through on that recommendation by granting pensions to supervisors in order to assist them during retirement. Since the announcement of the intended strike, the union representing supervisors has expressed concerns regarding the organization’s attempts to intimidate union employees.
