Comptroller Criticizes Cuomo's Plan to Cut Pension Costs
New York State's comptroller is criticizing the Governor's plan to allow municipalities to defer more of their pension costs. The comptroller said that he has concerns about the effects on the funding level of the pension system, as well as for local governments. Others have questioned the long-term effects of the plan. A previous plan allowed municipalities to borrow from the pension fund to pay their pension costs. As the sole trustee of the state pension fund, the comptroller can block the governor's plan from being implemented.
