Conde Nast will regret cutting its internship program
Conde Nast, the magazine company that publishes ?The New Yorker?, ?Vanity Fair?, and ?Vogue?, has stopped its entire intern program after two of the student workers sued five months ago over the company?s practice of not paying interns. Almost half of 2013 graduates had an unpaid internship at some point during their time at school. There has been a growing movement against unpaid internships, especially within the entertainment, fashion, and journalism industries. Many of the companies who have also been sued over similar allegations have changed their policies to incorporate pay or higher pay. While attitude about unpaid internships may be changing, internships in general remain a viable way for young people to get their foot in the door at great companies and as a way for those companies to recruit and retain new, skilled talent.
