ConEd Tackles Union Tasks
New York power company Consolidated Edison is attempting to use managers to replace the 8,500 unionized workers that the company locked out on July 1. The 5,000 managers, along with some replacement workers, have already reported injuries, and the company is under pressure from the state and local government to resolve the dispute before a major power outage. Talks between the union and company are set to resume on Tuesday, but the company says that they are managing well during the lockout. Talks have centered around pension plans for new workers.
