Construction Labor Shortages Might Boost Off-Site Work
Labor shortages in construction jobs may require an increase in off-site prefabrication work. This method involves building the structural components for a project in advance, and then putting them together at the construction site. Prefabrication's 'assembly-line' style nature, as well as its use of technology, enables workers with lower skill-levels to complete building projects. Although the method presents a solution for the labor shortages, a full scale implementation of the technique would require a significant cultural shift. In 2015, only 2% of single-family houses were prefabricated.
